The Earth - Our Drawings

After our earlier discussions I asked the children to draw a picture of themselves and the Earth.

Caitlyn: I used a telescope to see the thing. The earth is all the way up there. (Pointing to the sky).

Campbell: Earth is up in space. It is made of circles. I think it is black. People can see the earth, they have to climb up there.

Claire: The earth is up in the sky and those are all the planets and some earths. There are 29 planets. The earth is hot. I have a telescope and I am looking at the sky in my outside bath.
Eva: They are the colourful stars. The earth is up in the sky. There are planets in earth. I think earth is blue but I don’t know. I have seen it on telly. I was a watching planet on earth.

Thomas: The earth is up in the sky. There are stars
Miss Bell: Why the is the earth blue and green?
Thomas: The blue is the water and that is the grass. There are trees on the earth. They have cars on earth. The stars are making pictures of a car. The stars look like a tree.

Vida: This is the Earth, I’ve seen it on a movie. The green bits are the earth and sea bits are blue that is where the water is. The black bits around it are space. Earth is in space, we are on the Earth.

Vida said she had misunderstood what I had said so I asked her to do just a quick pencil drawing again to show what she meant.
